Here at PowerGen, we believe in giving back to communities that are less fortunate than ours.
PowerGen’s founders Carla and Paul, along with a friend, started helping out the remote villages in Cambodia over 6 years ago.
Since then, they established the Brighter Futures Foundation in 2019. The Brighter Futures Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to positively impacting the lives of people living in disadvantaged communities in Cambodia.
The Brighter Futures Foundation has been making a real difference to these communities through labour and donations.
In the early years of the Foundation development, Carla and Paul were in Cambodia to establish water pipes and tanks for the communities.
Since this, they have made an effort to donate bikes, school uniforms, school supplies, women’s sanitary items and bags of rice to a number of villages.
Using the money raised, these items and supplies are actually purchased within Cambodia so that they are both donating the items and helping to stimulate the Cambodian economy.
Now more than ever
Now more than ever the people of Cambodia need our help. Their main source of income is the tourism and trade industry. Unfortunately, this was totally decimated due to the pandemic.
Carla reports that “For a lot of the community, the workers who were employed in the tourism industry have had to find farm work where most of them are actually just working to eat…”.
Due to the pandemic, Carla and Paul haven’t been able to physically get over to Cambodia to carry out these efforts. However, this hasn’t stopped their enthusiasm.
To continue to provide and raise money for these communities, Carla has been baking homemade cookies to sell at local cafes.
